Category: Architecture. Client: aggregate LLC. January 2015. This project consisted of renovating a large portion of the unfinished basement of a hospice care residence to create a place of worship, meditation and reflection for residents and visitors. In its design, aggregate included a trilogy of light coves within the new walls with peaceful, soft lighting, and a ceiling light cove that mimics the feel of a skylight, all of which are meant to bring the natural feeling of the surrounding rural landscape into the space. Culture and context are further developed with the installation of new stained glass pieces on existing entry and window elements, natural wood craftsman-style trim and vertical columns that extend the space skyward. Sensitive to the impact of converting a former basement space into a highly finished semi-public room, aggregate also designed built-in storage and display areas into the space to seamlessly provide needed functionality.
