Category: architecture. Client: Soe Lin Associates, Bethesda, MD. Photographed in several phases, April-July 2012, in collaboration with Brandon Webster Photography. Nestled in a quiet neighborhood in upper Northwest Washington DC, this traditional colonial home was built at a time when families made due with much less space. Its owners are a bi-national couple - one European, the other South Asian - with two teenaged sons. As the boys grew and took on more activities, the couple turned to Burma-born architect Douglas Soe Lin to renovate the existing home and design an addition. In his design, Soe Lin uses quiet but powerful Asian design principles of proportional cubic interior and exterior volumes.
